The History of Black Watch

In 1725,10years after the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion, General George Wade, commander-in-chief in North Britain, advised King George 1 to create a ‘Watch’ consisting of six, independent Companies. This new ‘Watch’ was known in Gaelic as Am Freiceadan  Dubh, the “dark” or “Black Watch”. To create the watch, 3 companies were formed, these companies wore a black, dark blue and green tartan, which we know of as “Black Watch” which is officially termed as the Government Tartan. Today anyone can wear the Black Watch tartan.

Please note

It has been our experience that a 25m roll can occasionally have a join in the length which means we are unable to fulfil your order in one continuous length. As this is something entirely out of our control, by placing an order you will be deemed to have accepted this as part of the manufacturing process and therefore unavoidable.
